Remarks
Kingston is at the southern end of Lake Wakatipu, home of the historic Kingston Flyer steam train.   It’s the place where ordinary kiwi families come for their holidays.  So, if you want to experience the Southern Lakes area as it used to be – welcome!   We are a small, proudly independent Holiday Park, a little bit quirky but we’re proud of our modern facilities and old-fashioned service. The Holiday Park is set amidst mature trees and the Kingston Creek meanders through the grounds which we are planting with New Zealand shrubs and plants to attract the native birds. Walk for over a kilometer on the shingle beach, along the edge of the lake.  The locals kayak, water-ski, fish, parasail, boat or swim in the lake in their wet-suits.  There are rainbow and brown trout and salmon in Lake Wakatipu and we can organize a fishing licence that entitles you to fish in the Mataura River, a few minutes drive from Kingston, which offers some of the best fly-fishing in the country. There are walking tracks along the western side of Lake Wakatipu and a hike up to the top of Shirt-tail Rock, a bit of a challenge but worth it for the view. Check out the 9-hole golf course and tennis courts and hire equipment from us. The children’s playground is next door to the Holiday Park.  During summer many activities are organized for holiday makers.  There’s a couple of café’s, small store, a garage and a funky fashion store.
